No one would see the film with me.
or
2. Because it was such an unpopular film it didn't last long in theatres.

I am surprised that you gave the film such a high rating, Steve, since www.rottentomatoes.com gave it an enjoyability rating of only 15% (out of 1oo%). But because of your enthusiastic words for the movie maybe the next time I'm in the video with no idea of what I want to rent, I'll think of this and grab it. Psychological thriller / horror flicks are my absolute favorites!

~ TacoStevenWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10425594372003997340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-88586046606857106452007-03-15T03:39:00.000-04:002007-03-15T03:39:00.000-04:00Dexter is the dorkiest thing I've seen in my entir...Dexter is the dorkiest thing I've seen in my entire life. I used to like that actor. My favorite scene in the pilot was when his dad suggested he use his sociopathic homocidal tendencies for the forces of good. It was the Marvel comics moment when the guy decides to do the responsible thing and fight crime. So I guess his superpower is suposed to be homocidal lunacy?

There just aren't that many clever diabolical, psychopathic serial killers who, you know, have a theme like the Zodiac or calendar man or whatever the fuck. It's all just bullshit.

Also, they always get mental illness way wrong. There are two kinds of mental illness in the movies--super crazy, and not super crazy. You're either crazy beyond human comprehension everybody run for your lives, or you're maybe mildly depressed, but otherwise mental illness seems to be a complete and total mystery to the people who make movies and tv programs. The only time I've ever seen anyone handle mental illness right in the movies was John Cassavettes' A Woman Under the Influence.

Now I don't mind stuff like Freddy and Jason and Michael Myers--they're actual monsters like Frankenstein, but this serial killer stuff bugs the shit out of me.

I did like Silence of the Lambs, though. But I sort of thought of Lector as a mythological character, like a modern day troll under the bridge. But with this new movie/book they toss all that to hell, and invent a past for him, which seems to include an explanation for his otherwise supernatural behavior. I say keep your fantasy, fantasy, and stop trying to make this stuff make logical sense unless you know something about human behavior.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-38449831984467860772007-03-14T07:56:00.000-04:002007-03-14T07:56:00.000-04:00PS: "You're wasting your God-given talents on crap...PS: "You're wasting your God-given talents on crap."

Just gotta add, I've heard that all my life! From parents, priests, nuns, teachers, guidance counselors, employers, peers, friends -- and they're always each talking about whatever it is I'm into that they're NOT, which happens to be whatever it is my other peers/friends/etc. ARE into that I do! This applies to everything from drawing to parenting, mind you. I kid you not.

I just do what I do, love what/whom I love, and the hell with what anyone thinks about it. It's my life, and it's all a waste of my "God-given talents" to somebody-or-other, from my art to my writing to my dinolust to my cine-obsessions to my comics collection to my teaching to my you-name-it.SRBissettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14426874992235196378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-14050980623097803842007-03-13T18:51:00.000-04:002007-03-13T18:51:00.000-04:00What's AMERICAN IDOL?What's AMERICAN IDOL?James Robert Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17281049641681225389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-33866286029375755942007-03-12T09:37:00.000-04:002007-03-12T09:37:00.000-04:00Well for God's sake don't start writing about AMER...Well for God's sake don't start writing about AMERICAN IDOL! Sorry I'm boring y'all.

And as for Bush -- 400 million more Americans voted on AMERICAN IDOL than voted in the last Predential election. Apathy reigns. I can't join that club, sorry.SRBissettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14426874992235196378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-91915165643434155032007-03-12T08:11:00.000-04:002007-03-12T08:11:00.000-04:00Jeannie watched Wicker Man last night. That's when I went upstairs to find something worthwhile to do. Life's too short. Most movies are crap. You're wasting your God-given talents on crap.

I bet Hannibal sux. I'm with hemlockman on that one, just based on the law of averages. But if/when Jeannie rents it, I'll give it a chance.

I'm with hem'man on BLADERUNNER, too, almost. Not my ALL-TIME fave (nothing is, or can be), but definitely high HIGH on the list.

As for Bush - YAWWWWNNNN!!!!Mark Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04799399359022340724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-25970165988860480972007-03-11T21:43:00.000-04:002007-03-11T21:43:00.000-04:00I really did not care for HANNIBAL. It just didn't work. For me. (As apparently, it did for you.)

In fact, I find it hard to believe the same man who produced BLADERUNNER (which has become my all-time favorite movie) also delivered HANNIBAL. What the Hell??!!

I won't be watching HANNIBAL RISING. Not at the theater. Not at the dollar cinema. Not on DVD. No thanks. The sentimental serial killer schtick is getting quite old at this point. Somebody please come up with another take on this tired new form. (DEXTER, not counting, as I quite enjoyed that series from last year.)James Robert Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17281049641681225389noreply@blogger.com
