Please send me your complate name because is very important for my bibliography
http:www.cinemamonstruoso.blogspot.com
gabriel.benitez@gmail.comGabriel BenÃtez Lozanohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08861354414244720192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-65559371382757726512007-07-08T08:41:00.000-04:002007-07-08T08:41:00.000-04:00Thanks for the very kind words, Stephen! Glad you ...Thanks for the very kind words, Stephen! Glad you enjoyed this piece, and hope you'll enjoy what I will be posting as the year unfurls (yep, more in store). The copy on DVD packaging is indeed sometimes astoundingly asinine, that BEAST copy a low point, indeed!

Bob, re:

"I have never seen THE SECRET OF THE LOCH, and I have no intention of seeing such a cheesy film. So many of my friends have a taste for bad cinema, and I'll occasionally view such movies...but I don't go out of my way to do so."

LOCH is actually quite a lovely little movie, and significant and entertaining for the reasons stated. 'Cheesy' and 'bad cinema' are relative pejoratives too often bandied about; my affection for the process and enjoyment of such films -- like BEHEMOTH! -- is self-evident. Your loss, in this case (LOCH).

Bob, re:
"Now that you've linked giant lake monsters to "Casting the Runes", please do a piece on Niall MacGinnis, who, in NIGHT OF THE DEMON, gave one of the finest acting performances I have ever seen in any film. His work in that movie was priceless--a villain who is at once despicable and sympathetic; monstrous, yet in some ways admirable. He played Karswell at a level of perfection I've rarely witnessed. (The only genre film with a performance that equals it was Karloff's turn as Grey, the cabman, in THE BODYSNATCHER...another example of near-genius.)"

My interests are rarely steered by such requests, though don't take it as indifference; I'm just not moved to write about DEMON, though it's an absolutely terrific film. Agreed, too, that Niall MacGinnis in DEMON and Boris in THE BODY SNATCHER give two of the truly great horror film performances of all time, to which I could add my own personal favorites -- for such posts, though, I really recommend Tim Lucas's videowatchblog (http://www.videowatchdog.blogspot.com)
as a regular beat for your online reading, as Tim often tackles such subjects and with far greater eloquence and knowledge than I can aspire to. His current July 3 post on Joseph Losey's THE DAMNED is essential reading -- just as that film is essential viewing!

There are so many incredible films, comics, books, etc. out there -- and so little time!

Hope you enjoyed the BEHEMOTH piece's conclusion, and thanks as always for spending time here with me.SRBissettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14426874992235196378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-51552779661442631472007-07-08T06:57:00.000-04:002007-07-08T06:57:00.000-04:00Fantastic post. Have to say that as much as I liked the story and was blown away by the art, my favorite parts of 'Tyrant' was your back up articles on dinosaurs in film. To have films that I grew up loving given the detail and thought they deserve, instead of being written off in a pithy line or two as some many books on film do....it's like Christmas. You know, even Warner Brothers cared so little for "Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" that, at least originally, their DVD package stated that Harryhausen had the Rhedosaurus " constructed at full scale, all 50 tons of it". You have to work pretty hard to get something that wrong. Thanks for posting this and the effort that went into writing it. Look foreward to part three.

Stephen FlacassierAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15861891.post-47749909310199513412007-07-07T18:13:00.000-04:002007-07-07T18:13:00.000-04:00Oh, damn you! Excellent work.

It's strange to see how the student outpaced the teacher, re: O'Brien and Harryhausen. 20,000 FATHOMS despite having pretty much the same plot and scenario as BEHEMOTH, is the superior film. Not least of which is due to the fact that the effects were just better and that the Rhedosaurus was a much more effective monster than the Paleosaurus.

I never liked GORGO. Guys dressed up in rubber suits just don't cut it after you've seen Kong duke it out with an Allosaurus on Skull Island.

In reference to my earlier comment on Muren/Tippett...I did not intend to demean their accomplishments in FX, but was just stating that you'd have been a better choice to do the job of movie commentary on that film.

I have never seen THE SECRET OF THE LOCH, and I have no intention of seeing such a cheesy film.
